'Brickyards Night School' - Ralf Kempken
'Brickyards Night School' - Ralf Kempken
The mural is inspired by the story of Mr Richard Guille from St. Peters Certified School of England School who advocated against young children being taken out of his school to work in the brickyards. In response to children being removed from the school, Reverend Charles Baber set up a Night School for the children working in the brickyards through the St. Peters Church. The artwork has been constructed using historical photos from the late 1800s of children from Mr Guille’s school and schools in Newtown and Marrickville, as well as imagery of workers from the brickyards. The eyes in the artwork represent culturally and linguistically diverse groups in Marrickville

My role in the project was to draft up the mural and prepare it for instillation. This entailed dividing the screen into 15 individual sheets, implementing appropriately positioned screw holes, performing minor touch-ups, format the files for fabrication, and provide instructions for the installation process.
I primarily used Adobe Illustrator for this project, however performed minor touch ups with Adobe Photoshop and created the technical drawings with Solidwork.
